DEXTER– Peyton Grant scored 16 of her game high 25 points in the first half as the Dexter Tigers overcame an early deficit to earn a 33-26 win over Stearns at Ed Guiski gymnasium on Wednesday night.
Stearns jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead. After a Tigers timeout, Grant nailed a three pointer to cut the deficit to 7-3. The Minutemen held a 9-6 lead after the first quarter.
Katie Kenyon scored the only basket for Stearns in the second quarter. That hoop made the score 11-8. Dexter scored the final 10 points of the half, including a Grant three pointer with 4:30 remaining that gave the Tigers a lead (13-11) they wouldn’t give back.
Katherine Alley put in eight points in the third quarter for Stearns, while Grant had seven for Dexter as the Minutemen outscored the Tigers 10-9 in the quarter.
Grant and Cheyenne Beem each had a basket in the final quarter, while Avery Herrick made two free throws late in the game to help the Tigers finish the regular season with a 15-3 record.
Herrick had four points and eight rebounds, Beem recorded two points, eight rebounds, and three steals. Kaylee Deering chipped in with two points, three rebounds, three steals, and two assists. Danielle Cummings contributed five rebounds and three assists. Grant made five 3 pointers. Dexter (15-3) currently sits in the number two spot in the Maine Principals’ Association class C heal point standings. They will enter the tournament as the two or three seed.
Katherine Alley scored a team high 10 points for the Minutemen. Alisyn Alley added nine points and four steals. Annalys Robinson recorded four points, 13 rebounds, and three blocks. Katie Kenyon and Kasey Kenyon chipped in with two and one points respectively. Stearns finishes the regular season with a 14-4 record and will enter the tournament as the number eight or nine seed
