DEXTER– Trever Richards and Nate Richards combined for 27 points to power the Dexter Tigers to a 54-35 win over Bucksport in a Maine Principals’ Association Class C preliminary round game Tuesday night at Ed Guiski gymnasium.
The Tigers jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead. After a timeout, Bucksport went on an 8-4 run to end the quarter and cut the deficit to 11-8. The Tigers held a 27-18 halftime lead behind 10 first half points from Trever Richards.
The Richards brothers helped put the game away in the fourth quarter as Trever nailed 2 three pointers and Nate made 7-8 from the free throw line in the final minutes. Dexter (15-4) will face Mattanawcook in a quarterfinal game scheduled for 11;05 on Tuesday, February 19th at the Cross Insurance Center. Trever Richards scored a game high 16 points (4 three pointers), Nate Richards filled up the stat sheet with 11 points, five steals, four rebounds, and three assists. Kobe Pillsbury recorded 10 points, four rebounds, and two assists. Haedyn Guenther had nine points, four rebounds, and three steals. Brett Kusnierz and Chris Fitzgerald added six and two points respectively.
Freshman Ty Giberson came off the bench to lead the Bucks with 12 points. Cameron Sopher also had a big game off the bench with nine points and 12 rebounds. Tyson Gray had seven points and 10 rebounds. Jakob Donnell and Nathan Russell had five and two points respectively. Bucksport finishes the season with a 9-10 record.
