Waterville gets hot in fourth quarter to defeat John Bapst in class B girls quarterfinal

BANGOR- The Waterville girls basketball team put up 23 points in the fourth quarter to come from behind and earn a 44-35 win over John Bapst in a Maine Principals’ Association Class B quarterfinal game played Friday night at the Cross Insurance Center.

John Bapst hit two 3 pointers late in the first half to give the Crusaders a 16-12 halftime lead. John Bapst outscored Waterville 11-4 in the second quarter.

The Crusaders held a 25-21 lead heading into the fourth quarter. In the final eight minutes, Jayda Murray (10) and Sadie Garling (8) combined for 18 points for the Purple Panthers. Waterville outscored John Bapst 23-10 in the final quarter.

Sydney Ellis led the Crusaders with 11 points, while Lacey Scanlon chipped in with six. John Bapst finishes the season with a 7-13.

Garling scored a game high 19 points for the Purple Panthers. She also recorded five rebounds and three steals. Murray put in 12 points. Madeline Martin (12) and Kali Thompson (11) combined for 23 rebounds. Waterville out rebounded John Bapst 42-28. Waterville (19-0) will play Hermon or Presque Isle in a semifinal game Wednesday night.
