BANGOR- Southern Aroostook went on an 11-4 run to start and never trailed in a 62-49 win over Deer Isle-Stonington in the the Maine Principals’ Association Class D girls basketball regional final on Saturday morning at the Cross Insurance Center. It is the second straight regional title for the Warriors.
Southern Aroostook exploded for 39 first half points behind eight points in the half from Sydney Brewer. The junior finished with 17 points and Brewer now has 999 points in her career. The Warriors will play in the state final against Rangeley or Greenville at 2:05 PM on March 2nd at the Cross Insurance Center.
Southern Aroostook scored the first four points in the second half to get their largest lead at 43-24. The Mariners scored the next six points to cut the deficit to 43-30. The Warriors maintained that 13 point lead and took a 50-37 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The Mariners cut the deficit to 56-47 in the fourth quarter. Southern Aroostook ended the game on a 6-2 run. Taylor Hardy led the Mariners with 11 points. Lily Gray added eight points, Kaylee Morey chipped in with eight points and two assists. Bri Limeburner had six points and 10 rebounds, Makayla Lebel added six points and six rebounds. Katie Hutchinson recorded four points, 12 rebounds, and three blocks. Deer Isle-Stonington finishes the season with a record of 18-1.
Makaelyn Porter had 15 points and two assists for the Warriors. Kassidy Mathers added 10 points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Kylie Vining chipped in with seven points, four rebounds, four steals, and two assists.
