The high school hockey regular season recently came to an end, and now teams around the state get ready for playoff action beginning with quarterfinal round games on Tuesday night.
The Bangor Rams, who finished 14-4 in Class A North and finished in third place will host the sixth seed in Cony/Monmouth/Hall Dale (6-12) at Sawyer Arena in Bangor Tuesday at 6:30 pm. The top two seeds in Class A were Lewiston (16-2) and in second St. Dominic (13-4-1), who both got first round byes. The winner of Tuesday nights Bangor and Cony game will advance to play St. Dominic at the Colisee in Lewiston at 7 pm on Friday. The regional final is scheduled for Tuesday, March 5th and the state final for Saturday, March 9 both games also at the Colisee. The other quarterfinal bracket has fourth seed Edward Little (12-6) facing fifth seed Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/Morse/Hyde (8-9-1) at 5 pm Tuesday, with the winner in that matchup to travel to play Lewiston in the semifinal Saturday at 8 pm.
In Class B the defending state champions from Old Town/Orono finished 13-5 and garnered the top seed and got a first round bye, along with second seed Waterville/Winslow (14-4). Old Town/Orono will get the winner of number four Camden Hills (11-7) and number five Hampden (10-7-1) who play Tuesday evening in Rockport. That semifinal will be played Saturday at 5 pm at Colby College in Waterville. In the other bracket, the winner of the game between number three Presque Isle (15-3) and number six seed John Bapst/MDI/Bangor Christian (8-9-1) will also travel to Colby College for a 1 pm semifinal against Waterville/Winslow Saturday. That quarterfinal originally scheduled for Tuesday has been pushed back to Wednesday due to weather in Presque Isle. The regional final is scheduled for Wednesday, March 6 at Alfond Arena in Orono, with the state game also to take place the same day and same location as Class A at the Colisee in Lewiston on Saturday, March 9.
