The University of Maine women’s basketball team finished off the regular season Saturday afternoon, getting 23 points from Blanca Millan in a 67-60 win at the Events Center in Vestal, New York. It was the 11th consecutive win for the Black Bears.
Maine led by as many as 13 in the first half, carrying a 34-26 lead into halftime. Millan had 15 of her 23 in that first half that included a 5-7 shooting clip from the floor. Millan began the third quarter with a pair of three pointers to help extend the lead to 14, as it looked like the Bears were pulling away as the run of 13-5 eventually put the visitors up 16. Maine built the lead to 21, the biggest they had in the game, and led by 19 at the end of the third. The Bearcats wouldn’t go away easily however, using a 12-0 run over a 3:50 span in the fourth to cut it to single digits at 61-52 with 3:50 to play. Maine however made just enough plays down the stretch to hold on, as time ran out on Binghamton. The Bearcats dropped their record to 12-17, 7-9 in America East finishing in sixth place in the standings, and will face third seed Albany in a quarterfinal next Wednesday night.
Millan added four rebounds and two steals for Maine. Fanny Wadling, Dor Saar, and Tanesha Sutton all had 11 points a piece.
