Rebecca Davila picked a great time to record her season high point total. Davila recorded 21 points, six rebounds, and three assists to lead the Central Maine Community College (CMCC) Mustangs to a 65-53 win over Penn State Lehigh Valley (PSLV) in a National USCAA Division II National semifinal game played on Tuesday afternoon at Uniontown, Pennsylvania.
CMCC jumped out to a 15-10 lead after the first quarter. PSLV exploded to outscore the Mustangs 20-6 in the second quarter as they took a 30-21 halftime lead.
PSLV scored the first basket of the second half to take a 32-21 lead. The Mustangs scored the next 10 points to cut the deficit to one. Davila made a jump shot to give CMCC a 35-34 lead with 4:57 left in the third quarter. The teams would go back and forth until Kristen Huntress gave CMCC a lead (44-42) with 9:01 left in the fourth quarter. The Mustangs would hold that lead the rest of the way. CMCC scored the first seven points of the final quarter. The Mustangs went 7-11 from the free throw line in the final 1:27 to secure the victory.
Brooke Reynolds had another big game for the Mustangs, recording 15 points and 14 rebounds. CMCC (27-2) will play in the national championship game for third straight year when they take on top seeded Villa Maria on Wednesday afternoon at 2 PM.
