Moreland and the bullpen spark Red Sox to first win of 2019

March 30, 2019

Mitch Moreland smacked a three run pinch hit home run in the top of the ninth inning to cap a Boston Red Sox 7–6 comeback win on Friday night at Seattle.

The Red Sox trailed 6-1 after four innings. A four home run attack from the offense and four scoreless innings from the bullpen sparked the comeback and the first win of the season.

Xander Bogaerts, JD Martinez, Christian Vazquez, and Moreland each hit their first home run of the season.

Colten Brewer, Brandon Workman, Brian Johnson, and Matt Barnes each pitched a scoreless inning of relief.

The Bullpen recorded seven strikeouts, including Johnson (1-0) striking out the side in the eighth inning and Barnes getting two in the ninth inning to secure the win.

Nathan Eovaldi struggled in his first start of the season, allowing six runs in five innings. Sam Travis had two hits to pace the offense. The teams will play game three of the four game series on Saturday night at 9:10 PM. Eduardo Rodriguez is scheduled to take the mound for the Red Sox against Mike Leake and the Mariners.
