Red Sox comeback falls just short in loss to Mariners

March 31, 2019

The Boston Red Sox attempt for a ninth inning comeback for a second straight night fell just short this time as they fell 6-5 to the Mariners at Seattle on Saturday night.

The Red Sox were able to cut the deficit to one thanks to errors by Mariners third baseman Dylan Moore on three consecutive plays.

The Red Sox starting pitchers have gave up at least six runs in each of the first three games. This time it was Eduardo Rodriguez, he gave up six runs (five earned) on eight hits and three walks, while striking out five in 4.1 innings.

Rafael Devers, JD Martinez, and Jackie Bradley JR had two hits each to pace the offense. Heath Hembree, Tyler Thornburg, and Hector Velazquez combined to pitch 3.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Rick Porcello will take the mound on Sunday afternoon at 4:10 PM as the Red Sox try to salvage a split in the season opening four game series.
