April 3, 2019

The Boston Red Sox fell to the Oakland Athletics 1-0 on Tuesday night. It is the fourth straight loss for the Red Sox who have started the season 1-5.

Chris Sale gave up a homer to Matt Chapman in the first inning. Sale (0-2) ended up pitching six innings, allowing three hits and two walks, while striking out one.

Mike Fiers pitched six shutout inning for the Athletics. The Red Sox looked like they had something going in the ninth inning when Xander Bogaerts drilled one to right center just missing a home run. Bogaerts got thrown out at third base by A’s centerfielder Ramon Laureano. It was the second straight night Laureano threw out Bogaerts on the bases. On Monday night he got him trying to score.

The Red Sox will try and get things rolling on Wednesday night in game three of the series at Oakland when Nathan Eovaldi takes on Marco Estrada.
