After celebrating the 2018 championship season it was time for the 2019 to play the home opener against the Toronto Blue Jays. Chris Sale (0-3) struggled, giving up five runs in four innings. Sale was frustrated with himself in his postgame press conference after the Red Sox fell 7-5.
Chris Sale wasn’t vintage on the mound, but was in presser: “I’m trying to find something. I’m working. That only goes so far. This isn’t the hard-work league. This is the do-good league.”

Before the struggles of Sale, the Red Sox did hold a 2-0 lead after the second inning. The Blue Jays scored two in the third inning and three more in the fourth inning off Sale.
Mookie Betts hit a solo homer and the Red Sox took advantage of a Blue Jays error to cut the deficit to 5-4 in the sixth inning.

The Red Sox had an opportunity in the ninth inning after Dustin Pedroia singled and Jackie Bradley JR walked. Blue Jays closer Ken Giles retired Blake Swihart, Andrew Benintendi, and Betts to finish the game.
Wow.
Epic finish with a great battle between Ken Giles and Mookie Betts. #Bluejays closer stays perfect in save situations as a #Jays with a huge K to end it.
Seven runs is a season high, 10 hits matches season high.
