Dexter residents to compete in National powerlifting competition

A group of Dexter residents will be participating in the WABDL (World Association of Benchers and Deadlifters) national meet at the Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells.on Saturday, April 27th.

David Palmer, Kyle Lockhart, Andrew Levensalor, Toby Levensalor, and Eric Bennett have put many hours of work in at Millside Fitness in Dexter. On Thursday, they will leave the state to head to a competition where they be looking to qualify for the world championships at Las Vegas in November. Palmer and Lockhart have already punched a ticket to the World games by competing last year.

“I am pretty excited to go out and lift. I am lifting at the 220 weight class. My best bench is 435 and best deadlift is 630. I would be very happy to do both those out in Wisconsin,” Andrew Levensalor said. “The goal is to have a total of 1050 pounds.”

This is Andrew Levensalor and Lockhart’s third meet. Last year, Lockhart took first at the World event with his deadlift. Lockhart’s best bench in competition is 435.2 pounds and in deadlift competition is 622.7 pounds. Both those were in the RAW Junior Men’s Super Heavy Weight Division and both were state records.

“I am just really excited for the opportunity of going somewhere new and getting to go lift with my friends,”Lockhart said. “We have been putting in a lot of hard work in the gym and I’m looking forward to seeing the results.

Palmer has competed in seven World championships, three times at Wisconson Dells and Countless local meets.And internationally in Finland.

“Everyone has worked hard and the sport is amazing to watch and participate in. I have six world championships and hold state and world records with best bench at 540 and deadlift at 675,”Palmer said. “In June we will be running the Northeast regional championships in Portland as I was just promoted to New England Regional Meet director.”

This will be the second meet for Bennett and the first for Toby Levensalor.
