Tanner Houck fired a one hit shutout and Bobby Dalbec and Tate Matheny had a pair of runs driven in Monday evening, as the Portland Sea Dogs blanked the Hartford Yard Goats 7-0 in a rain shortened five inning Eastern League baseball game at Hadlock Field in Portland.
Luke Tendler doubled in the only run that Portland (4-9) needed in the second inning. Oscar Hernandez added an RBI single and Keith Curcio an RBI double in the same frame to make it 3-0. Matheny had a two run single in the third to extend that lead, and then Dalbec hit a two run homer in the fourth to cap off the scoring. It was the second of the season for the ‘Dogs third baseman.
Houck (2-1) threw 74 pitches and 48 for strikes, and had nine strikeouts with no walks in his 5.0 innings of work to get the win. Bret Boswell had the lone hit for 8-10 Hartford. Brandon Gold (1-1) took the loss for the Yard Goats allowing four runs, seven hits, with one walk, and five strikeouts in 2.0 innings. C.J. Chatham added two hits for Portland. Portland and Hartford are scheduled to continue their three game series Tuesday night at 6 pm.
