As the NFL Draft came to a conclusion on Saturday, three former University of Maine football players found out they will have their chance to get onto an NFL roster come next fall.

Drew Belcher signed an undrafted free agent deal with the Arizona Cardinals. Belcher who began his four career as a quarterback, only appeared in 18 games in his first two seasons at that position. Belcher converted to a tight end following a redshirt year in 2016. In 2017 and 2018 Belcher made 63 receptions for 581 yards and three touchdowns.

Also getting mini camp invitations Saturday were both Sterling Sheffield and Micah Wright. Sheffield was invited to camp with the Cincinnati Bengals. For his career, Sheffield appeared in 45 games totaling 229 tackles, 44.5 tackles for loss, and 22.5 sacks. In the 2018 season the defensive end was named FCS First Team All American, an All CAA selection, and also an AP Second Team All American.

Wide receiver Wright got an invitation to join the Arizona Cardinals mini camp. Wright is ranked sixth all time in Maine football history with 2,143 yards receiving, and seventh in all time receptions with 160. Wright earned a spot on the All CAA Third Team for his performance in 2018. He recorded 39 catches for 449 yards and five touchdowns in his senior year. The Newark, New York native averaged 44.9 yards per game and 11.5 yards per catch.
