Day 1 recap of NAC baseball tournament

The opening day of the NAC baseball tournament took place at Alfond Diamond at the Winkin Complex in Bangor Friday morning, hosted by the top seeded Husson Eagles.

Game 1 Husson 10, UMaine-Farmington 1: The Husson Eagles got hits from six different starters and a solid start on mound from freshman Brandon Brunell and cruised by UMF 10-1. The Eagles used a four run third to break a scoreless tie, scoring all four unearned with the biggest being a two run double from Alex Chapman. After the Beavers got one back in the fifth on an RBI single from Zach Hartsgrove, Husson scored three more in the sixth. Kobe Rogerson had a two run single and David Leblanc an RBI hit as the hosts went up 7-1. Conor McGuire and Rogerson each had three hits a piece to pace the 13 hit Husson attack. Brunell (4-0) only allowed one run, six hits, with two walks, and two strikeouts in 5.1 innings. Justin Rodrique had two hits for UMF, and Gavin Arsenault (2-5) suffered the loss on the mound allowing four runs (none earned), five hits, with two walks, and six strikeouts in 4.0 innings.

Game 2 Northern Vermont-Lyndon 10, Thomas College 4: The Hornets from Northern Vermont-Lyndon used a 14 hit attack to also advance to the winners bracket by easily defeating Thomas. Zak Johnson had two huge hits in the game for five RBI to lead the winners, with a two run double in the second and a three run double in the seventh. Noah Barton had four hits and Ben Rollins three for the Hornets. Jake Jourdain (7-3) pitched well in the win allowing just one run, three hits, with three walks, and 11 strikeouts in 7.0 innings. Alexander Miller had two hits and three RBI to lead the Terriers, while Dylan Copeland (1-4) lost on the hill allowing four runs on five hits in 1.1 innings.

Saturdays schedule opens up with a losers bracket game between Thomas and UMF at noon, followed with a winners bracket matchup between Husson and Northern Vermont-Lyndon at 3 pm.
