Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations during the week to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 291 past athlete of the week winners.
This week, we had six Rowell’s Garage athlete of the week nominations. Lanie Perry from Narraguagus won in a very close vote over Leine McKechnie from PVHS and Maci Leali from Nokomis. It is the fourth athlete of the week honor for Perry.
The Charles Inn female athlete of the week
- Lanie Perry- Narraguagus- softball – allowed one bit and stuck out seven in three innings in 17-3 win over Machias. Pitched a no hitter with 19 strikeouts and was walked intentionally three times in 8-0 win over Woodland. Pitched a four hitter with 12 strikeouts and one walk plus had two hits, including a double and two RBI in 12-1 win over Calais.
Runner up
- Leine McKechnie- PVHS- softball- pitched a one hitter with two walks and 19 strikeouts in 8-2 win over Searsport. Fired a two hitter with 16 strikeouts in the circle plus had two hits, including a homer and two RBI in 7-0 win over Stearns. Pitched a two hitter with 14 strikeouts in 7-0 win over PCHS. Had six strikeouts and allowed one hit in three innings in 23-7 win over Lee.
Other nominations
- Maci Leali – Nokomis – softball- hit four hits, three homers, including a grand slam and eight RBI in 21-4 win over Mt. View.
- Kenzie Dore- Brewer- softball- had two hits, including a home run and three RBI in 13-7 win over Old Town. Had two hits, including a homer with three RBI in 9-2 win over Nokomis.
- Sydney Ames- Skowhegan- softball- pitched a two hitter with nine strikeouts in 12-0 win over Hampden.
- Chloe Jones- Oceanside- softball- pitched a no hitter with three walks and 13 strikeouts in 2-1 win over Morse.
