After both the Husson baseball and softball teams won the North Atlantic Conference titles this past weekend, the NAC announced Tuesday that the Eagles swept the weekly awards on both the baseball and softball fronts. Several Husson players also earned end of the year awards as well.
In baseball Junior outfielder David Leblanc won the player of the week. Leblanc went 5-13 (.384) and had four RBI to help the Eagles to three wins and a tournament title. Leblanc was also named to the All-Tourney team and also earned MVP of this past weekends tournament, and wins his second player of the week award. Junior right hander Jesse Colford was named pitcher of the week. Colford pitched a complete game shutout Saturday in the 6-0 win over Northern Vermont-Lyndon. He allowed six hits, with one walk, and seven strikeouts over his 9.0 inning performance. Colford earned a spot on the All-Tourney team and also wins his second pitcher of the week honor for the 2019 season. Former Brewer High standout and Freshman second baseman Kobe Rogerson won his third rookie of the week honor. In two wins over UMPI last Sunday to help Husson earn the top seed for the NAC tournament plus the three wins this past weekend, Rogerson helped the Eagles to a 5-0 week with nine hits, seven RBI, five runs scored, and two walks in 18 at bats. Rogerson also landed on the All-Tourney team at the conclusion of play Sunday afternoon. The infielder also won the NAC Rookie of the Year award by batting .368 in conference games, and .364 overall for the regular season. He also becomes the first infielder in program history to make the Division III team of the week. Outfielder and Senior Connor McGuire also earned NAC Player of the Year and NAC Senior Scholar Athlete, while Senior outfielder Luke Covey was given the NAC Sportsmanship Award.
In softball senior outfielder Olivia Smith earned the MVP of the NAC Tournament and earned the player of the week in the conference. One of the biggest hits of the weekend was a three run homer to tie the game against top seed Thomas College in Hussons second game Saturday. In the three game weekend for the Eagles, Smith had five hits, two home runs, 10 RBI, and was perfect in the field. She was also named as part of the All-Tourney team. Junior outfielder/pitcher Jen Jones earned the NAC pitcher of the week. Jones pitched a perfect game in the championship game to help the Eagles to an 8-0 win. She earned four wins in the circle in the 5-0 week for Husson allowing just 11 hits, with one walk, and 24 strikeouts in 22 innings with a 1.91 ERA. At the plate Jones also batted .529 for the week with nine hits, two RBI, one walk, and two runs scored in 17 at bats. This is the second weekly honor for Jones, who was also named to the All-Tournament team. Jones was also named as the NAC Pitcher of the Year. Freshman outfielder/third baseman Whitney Bess garnered the rookie of the week honor. The former Madison High standout batted .375 for the week with six hits, five RBI, three runs scored, and a walk in 16 at bats. This is the third weekly honor of 2019 for Bess. Bess also won the 2019 NAC Rookie of the Year honor. Also garnering an honor was Arika Brochu who won the final Louisville Slugger/NFCA award of 2019 as the national player of the week. She is the first ever Husson player to receive recognition from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. Brochu batted .625 in the NAC Tourney, and also pitched 11 innings in the circle with a 1-0 record over the weekend.
