Kyle Hart fired seven strong innings, and the Sea Dogs got another home run from Bobby Delbec to defeat the Hartford Yard Goats 5-2 in the series opener on Monday night at Hadlock Field in Portland.
Hart (3-4) got the win and pitched a season high seven innings allowing two runs, four hits, while walking three, and striking out seven. Brian Ellington worked a scoreless eighth for the Sea Dogs. Daniel McGrath earned his first save of the season with a perfect ninth.
Dalbec began the scoring hammering a solo shot over the Maine Monster in left field in the bottom of the second inning, his seventh of the season and fourth in the past two games. The Sea Dogs took a 3-0 lead in the third on an RBI triple by Bret Netzer and a sac fly by CJ Chatham.
Hartford plated a run off of Hart in the fourth on a two out RBI single from Arvicent Perez. The Goats scored again with two outs in the sixth on a double by Alan Trejo.
Portland was able to pull away in the eighth with two runs off of the Goats bullpen. Jordan Foley walked Dalbec with the bases loaded, and Cody Ashe added a sac fly to make it 5-2 and end the scoring on the night. Ashton Gaudreau (2-2) took the loss for Hartford and allowed three runs, six hits, with one walk, and seven strikeouts in a six inning effort.
Portland is now 12-21, and Hartford is 19-18. The three game series continues on Tuesday night at Hadlock Field with a pitching matchup of Denyi Reyes (0-4) for Portland and Jacky Wynkoop (2-5) for Hartford. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
