Two more former University of Maine football players have come one step closer to making an NFL roster.

Sterling Sheffield and Micah Wright join Drew Belcher in signing free agent rookie contracts in hopes to make a team this upcoming fall. Belcher signed his undrafted free agent contract with the Arizona Cardinals following the NFL draft back on April 27. Over this past weekend Sheffield signed with the Cincinnati Bengals, while Wright inked his deal with the New Orleans Saints. The two players earned their way to the contacts after being invited to rookie minicamps on a tryout basis. Wright previously tried out with the Cardinals.

In his senior season, the defensive end Sheffield had 84 tackles and led the Colonial Athletic Association with 18 tackles for loss. He also was third in sacks with 9.5, and also had three fumble recoveries (one for a touchdown), an interception, seven pass breakups, and two forced fumbles.

In Wrights senior year, the wide receiver was second on the team with 47 receptions, 539 yards, and five touchdowns. He was also key on special teams with 18 punt returns for 97 yards. Wright finished sixth all time at UMaine in receiving yards (2,143) and seventh in receptions with 160.
