What we know about the high school softball tournament field

The official high school softball tournament schedule will not be set until Friday night. As make up games will be played on Friday. The following are some of the matchups we do know. The preliminary round games are scheduled for Tuesday, June 4th, while the quarterfinals are set for Thursday, June 6th. Be looking for the full schedule this weekend at easternmainesports.com

In class A, Skowhegan, Oxford Hills, Bangor, and Edward Little have locked down the top four spots and will host quarterfinal contests. Edward Little will host Messalonskee in the 4/5 matchup. Lewiston will travel to Bangor, while Hampden Academy will make the trip to face Oxford Hills. Top seed Skowhegan will host Mt. Blue or Cony.

In class B, Ellsworth plays at MDI in a regular season finale on Friday. That game will determine seeds 8 through 10. The following are Prelim matchups that are set- Nokomis at Hermon, Presque Isle at Medomak Valley, MCI at Oceanside, and Belfast at Foxcroft. Brewer and Old Town finish as the top two seeds and will host quarterfinal games.

In class C, the interesting thing here is Orono and Mattanawcook are tied in the heal point standings. Whoever gets that spot will host the 8/9 game. The other prelim game will be Houlton at Sumner. Calais will play at Central and Fort Kent at Dexter in quarterfinal contests. Top seed Bucksport and second seed Narraguagus will host quarterfinal games.

In class D, Katahdin, Penobscot Valley, Southern Aroostook, and Stearns finish as the top four and have advanced to the quarterfinals. The prelim matchups will be Hodgdon at Ashland, Jonesport-Beals at Deer Isle-Stonington, Shead at Fort Fairfield, and Woodland at Central Aroostook.
