Jerry Downs drove in an seventh inning run and Tate Matheny added some Insurance in the eighth on Tuesday night, as the Portland Sea Dogs rallied past the Richmond Flying Squirrels 5-2 in an Eastern League baseball game played at Hadlock Field in Portland.
Portland (20-34) has now won four straight games, coming off a three game weekend sweep at Binghamton that knocked the Rumble Ponies out of first place. Gio Brusa gave visiting Richmond the lead in the second inning with an RBI single. Joey Curletta tied things with a sacrifice fly in the fourth for the Sea Dogs. Joneshwy Fargas gave the Squirrels a 2-1 lead with an RBI single in the fifth, before Curletta tied it once again with a solo homerun in the sixth. Downs gave Portland their first lead of the night and the game winning RBI with a sacrifice fly in the seventh. Matheny continued his hot hitting with a two run single in the eighth.
Curletta and Matheny had two RBI to lead the Sea Dogs offense. Kevin Lenik (1-0) won in relief allowing no runs on two hits over 2.0 innings. Connor Wade started and allowed two runs on seven hits in 6.0 innings. Durbin Feltman picked up his second save, allowing two hits and a walk to load the bases in the ninth but getting out of the jam to end it with a strikeout and a groundout. Richmond (19-36) got two hits each from Brusa, Jonah Arenado, and Zach Houchins. Connor Menez (3-3) took the pitching loss allowing three runs on four hits over 6.0 innings. The Flying Squirrels are the affiliate of the San Francisco Giants.
The teams continue their three game series on Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
