David Ortiz suffers gunshot wound in Dominican Republic

According to multiple confirmed reports, former Minnesota Twins and Boston Red Sox player David Ortiz was shot at a nightclub in East Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic on Sunday night.

According to the local media outlet in DR, CDN 37 Ortiz was shot once in the back that exited through his stomach. Original reports said it was a possible robbery attempt, but other reports are now saying the suspect who has been arrested may of been trying to assassinate Ortiz.

Ortiz was rushed to a local hospital where it was reported he told the ER doctor, “Please don’t let me die, I am a good man”. As of 1:15 a.m. Eastern Time it was reported by the father of the 43 year old former slugger that surgery was successful and no major organs were affected and that he will make a full recovery.
