Update: Ortiz has second surgery overnight, will be transported to Boston

June 10, 2019

David Ortiz continues to recover Monday after being shot in the back in a Dominican Republic night club Sunday.

Ortiz had a second surgery overnight very early Monday morning. Multiple reports say Ortiz suffered damage to his gallbladder, limited damage to his liver, and part of his colon was removed. He is currently in the Intensive Care Unit in the Dominican Republic, after six hours total in surgery.

A plane is being sent to get Ortiz to Boston and Massachusetts General Hospital, and once he is stable enough to fly then he will be transported by medical air ambulance to Massachusetts. That is where the former Red Sox DH/first baseman will continue his recovery. The latest report is he is serious but in stable condition. The Boston Red Sox organization worked through the night to help the family with any needs. The hopes is to have Ortiz in Boston by Monday night.
