Devers, Price help Sox end three game slide

Rafael Devers homered twice matching a career high with six runs driven in, and David Price went six solid innings as the Boston Red Sox broke a three game losing streak by winning the series opener at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario 10-6 over the Toronto Blue Jays Tuesday night.

Boston (45-40) broke out early to back Price as Devers hit a two run homer in the first inning, Christian Vazquez added an RBI double, and Jackie Bradley Jr. an RBI single for a quick 4-0 lead. Xander Bogaerts had a fielders choice groundout in the second to make it 5-0. Danny Jansen got Toronto (32-54) on the board with an RBI double in the bottom of the second, but Devers was back at it in the third with a two run single to extend it to 7-1. Vazquez hit a solo homer in the seventh, and Devers hit a two run shot in the eighth to cap off the Red Sox scoring. Freddy Galvis had an RBI single, Jansen a solo homer, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. a two run double, and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. a sacrifice fly RBI for the other Blue Jays runs.

Price (6-2) allowed two runs on four hits, with four walks and seven strikeouts in his outing. Trevor Kelly made his MLB debut out of the bullpen in the ninth for Boston and was touched up for three runs on two hits. Devers had four hits to lead the way, and Vazquez had three. Mookie Betts, Bogaerts, and Bradley Jr. all had two a piece. Jansen had three hits to lead Toronto. Trent Thornton (2-6) allowed seven runs on 11 hits in 2.2 innings in taking the loss.

Game two of the series is Wednesday night at 7:07 p.m. Chris Sale will take to the hill for Boston, while Toronto will counter with right hander Jacob Waguespack who will make his second career start.
