Boston Red Sox fans held their collective breath when lefthander Chris Sale was placed on the 10 day injured list on Saturday, and was scheduled to see Dr. James Andrews on Monday for an MRI and opinion on his throwing arm with elbow inflammation.
Many thought the worst, possibly Tommy John surgery that would have Sale sidelined likely until the start of the 2021 season. According to MLB writer/insider Jeff Passan, Sale does not need Tommy John surgery. The bad news is that Sale has been recommended by the doctor to shut down from throwing for a period of time, and will be re-evaluated by Andrews in six weeks. That will mean the day Sale is re-evaluated will be September 30th, the day after the Red Sox play their final regular season game.
