The Dexter field hockey program has been strong for many years. Coach Brittany McAllister is expecting more of the same this season. In 2018, the Tigers finished 12-5 last season. They fell 3-0 to eventual state champion Winthrop in the class C regional final.
“I expect us to do well again this year. We had a very youthful team last season and the maturity and experienced gained last year will aid in our success,”McAllister said. “A core group of returning players with two new additions (will be a strength) who look to make a significant impact.”
The Tigers will again have a young team who hopes to make it a step further than the 2018 squad did. The defending state champs from Winthrop have moved to class C south. That won’t make it any easier to get through class C North. Mountain Valley, Spruce Mountain, and the Tigers rival Foxcroft Academy have joined the class C North ranks in 2019.
“We graduated four seniors all from defensive positions, still have a very youthful team. Foxcroft has moved into our division which will be a big challenge,”McAllister said. “We have a very dedicated group of girls who put a lot of time into the sport during the off season. They are hard working and going to do great things.”
Some of the key players for the Tigers include Goalie: Shawnee McNally, Mid: Cheyenne Beem, Rayna Barnard Forwards: Avery Herrick, Lexy Dow, Kassandra Gray Back: Kaitlyn Gray, TIna Lawson.
Dexter started the season with a 3-0 win over PCHS on September 4th. The home opener is September 6th against Orono. The first full week of the season will include a game at Central and a showdown at home with Foxcroft.
