The University of Maine women’s soccer team notched their third straight win on Saturday evening by scoring three second half goals to rally past Merrimack College 3-1 at Mahaney Diamond in Orono.
Taylor Robertson gave visiting Merrimack the first half advantage. On an assist from Molly Murnane, Robertson found the ball near the Maine net and beat Black Bears keeper Annalena Kriebisch at the 30:19 mark to make it 1-0.
Hannah Bamford found an open Kayla Brace at the 57:07 mark of the second half to tie the score. The Maine senior booted home the tying goal on an odd man rush up the field. Just over 12 minutes later at 69:17 Gaby Panagakos put the Bears ahead for good off a feed from Nichole Bailey. With 19 minutes left Julia Mahoney added some insurance for the winners. Olivia Bamford got a loose ball and put it right onto Mahoneys left foot as she found the back of the net to finish off the scoring.
Maine (3-1) outshot Merrimack 12-6, and had a 7-3 advantage in corners. Kriebisch made five saves in the win, while Megan Langlois and Erin Fulton combined for three saves for the 1-3 Warriors. The Black Bears continue the non-conference part of their schedule when they travel to Poughkeepsie, New York to face Marist University Thursday night at 7 p.m.
