Lexi Ireland nets hat trick as Howlers move to 4-0 with win over Greenville

The Greenville Lakers traveled to Howland to take on the Howlers in a matchup of two strong class D opponents. Greenville got on the scoreboard first when Jessica Pomerleau capitalized on a corner kick that slipped out of the hands of PV keeper Emilee Ireland. Bianca Breton was credited with the assist. The Howlers would tie the game with 12:41 left in the first half when Lexi Ireland headed a lofted ball from Leine McKechnie, over the head of the Greenville keeper. Ireland would score again a minute later when Emma Buck pushed a pass through to her, and Ireland shot the ball to the corner. PVHS led 2-1 at the half and outshot Greenville 11-9 through 40 minutes.

With 30 minutes to play in the game, Emma Buck found Lexi Ireland on a corner kick as Ireland headed the ball of a Greenville defender for her 3rd goal. Bianca Breton made the game more interested as she scored a goal midway through the 2nd half to bring the Lakers within one. With 5 minutes left, Jess Pomerleau had a breakaway that was thwarted by the PV goalie, as Ireland surely made a game winning save. The Howlers finished the game with a 3-2 win as they improve to 4-0. Emilee Ireland recorded 10 saves on 18 shots. Greenville drops to 3-2 on the season, and keeper Lexi Bjork had 11 saves on 21 shots. PVHS heads to Penquis on Monday and Greenville hosts Valley.
