Patriots fly past Jets to improve to 3-0

September 22, 2019

Tom Brady had over 300 yards again Sunday afternoon and tossed two more touchdown passes, as the New England built a 20-0 halftime lead and went on to beat the New York Jets 30-14 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

A touchdown run by Sony Michel of five yards, a Phillip Dorsett 25 yard touchdown catch from Brady, and a Julian Edelman three yard score from Brady all in the first quarter had the hosts off and running. Stephen Gostkowski added a third quarter field goal, and Rex Burkhead scored on a two yard run to extend it to 30-0. Both the scores by the 0-3 Jets didn’t come on the Patriots defense. A muffed punt by New England rookie Gunner Olszewski was recovered in the end zone by New Yorks Arthur Maulet for their first score. After Brady left the game about midway through the fourth quarter, rookie backup Jarrett Stidham over threw a pass intended for Brandon Bolden that was intercepted and taken back 61 yards for a score by Jamal Adams. The Patriots defense have now gone 16 quarters in a row without allowing a touchdown.

Brady finished 28-42 passing, 306 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. New England struggled in the ground game again with Burkhead leading the way with 11 carries for 47 yards and a touchdown. The Patriots rushed 27 times for 68 yards. Josh Gordon had six catches for 83 yards, while Edelman (7-62), and Dorsett (6-53) scored touchdowns. Edelman left the game late in second quarter with a rib injury and didn’t return. X-Ray results were negative on the receiver after the game. Jamie Collins had seven tackles and two sacks to lead the defense. Luke Falk went 12-22 passing, 98 yards, with no touchdowns, and one interception for the Jets. Le’Veon Bell was held to 35 yards on 18 carries. Braxton Berrios had two catches for 29 yards, and on defense Brian Poole had 12 tackles.

New England (3-0) now heads to Buffalo (3-0) for a big early season matchup between two AFC East unbeatens. The kickoff in Orchard Park, New York is scheduled for 1 p.m. next Sunday.
