Demby makes first career NFL start

September 23, 2019

Former University of Maine offensive guard Jamil Demby made his first National Football League start on Sunday night for the Los Angeles Rams against the Cleveland Browns at Paul Brown Stadium in Cleveland.

Demby helped anchor the offensive line against a very strong Browns defense and pass rush. The Rams allowed two sacks of quarterback Jared Goff in winning the game 20-13. Demby was appointed the start because of an injury to another starter along the offensive line in last weeks 28-9 Rams win over the New Orleans Saints, in which Demby entered the game in the second quarter.

The 6 foot 5, 321 pound Demby was selected by the Rams in the sixth round (192nd overall) in the 2018 NFL draft. He was waived by the Rams on September 8, 2018. On September 11, 2018 he was claimed off waivers by Detroit, and then re-assigned to the Lions practice squad a week later. On December 12, 2018 he was signed by the Rams off the Lions practice squad. While at UMaine, Demby appeared in 42 career games and as a senior he helped allow the fewest sacks in the CAA conference with 19. He was also was named to the First team All-CAA, the FCS All America First team, and the STATS FCS All America Second team. He graduated from Orono in May 2018 with a degree in kinesiology.
