Kinsey Williams rushed for three touchdowns, and Jermaine Cooper caught two more Saturday afternoon as the State University of New York-Morrisville Spartans rolled to a 42-15 win over the Husson Eagles in a Division III football game at Drake Field in Morrisville, New York.
After a scoreless first quarter SUNY-Morrisville (2-2) broke it open in the second quarter. Sterling FitzHe scored on a one yard run just over two minutes into the quarter, and Williams added two more short scoring runs later to give the hosts a 21-0 halftime lead. Cooper had both of his touchdowns in the third, one of 22 yards and another one of nine yards from quarterback Bill Flatow to extend it to 35-0. Husson (0-3) finally got on the scoreboard early in the fourth quarter on a short three yard touchdown run by wide receiver Keyshaun Robinson. Williams added another two yard scoring run 5:24 later, and the Eagles Santiago Isaza scored on the last play of the game on a one yard run and also ran in a two point conversion to end the scoring.
Husson quarterback David Morrison went 16-29 passing for 183 yards in the loss. Arthur Brefil rushed 19 times for 68 yards. Tyler Halls led the receiving core with four catches for 81 yards. Zach Connolly made 12 total tackles to lead the defense. Flatow went 15-19 passing, 214 yards, and two touchdown to lead SUNY-Morrisville. Williams finished with 17 carries for 81 yards and the three touchdowns. Toure Hall had six catches for 77 yards for the Spartans, while Cooper finished with four receptions for 57 yards and two scores. Jose Garcia had 12 total tackles in the win.
Husson goes winless in non-conference play, but will begin play in the Commonwealth Coast Conference as the newest member team next Saturday when they travel to Becker College for a 12 p.m. kickoff. The Eagles were part of the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference the prior 16 years. Husson was picked third in the preseason in the CCC.
