Marchand leads Bruins to come from behind win

October 9, 2019

Brad Marchand scored two goals on Tuesday night and Torey Krug scored his first of the year that ended up as the game winner as the Boston Bruins rallied past the Vegas Golden Knights 4-3 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In a matchup of two teams that many expect to contend for a Stanley Cup title this season, the Vegas Golden Knights flexed their muscle first in this one. On the powerplay Max Pacioretty received a pass from Cody Glass in the low slot and shoveled it over to a wide open Mark Stone who slid the puck home at 6:36 to make it 1-0. Just 1:44 later Jonathan Marchassault made a tape to tape pass from the right wing boards to Reilly Smith who was open in the low slot to the right of Boston goalie Tuuka Rask and the one time shot made it 2-0 for the hosts. At 11:21 of the period Patrice Bergeron stole a puck and got it to Marchand in the low part of the left faceoff circle and he sent a pass across to a streaking David Pastrnak to the right of the goal who one timed it in to get the Bruins on the board. Marchand tied it on the powerplay at 18:58 one timing a pass from Pastrnak from the left faceoff circle.

Marchand gave Boston (3-0-0) their first lead of the night and put them ahead for good in the second period when he took an indirect feed from Pastrnak off the boards and went in on a partial breakaway on Knights goalie Marc-Andre Fleury beating him with a wristshot at 33 seconds to make it 3-2. Krug continued the onslaught of Bruins goals when he scored what turned out to be the eventual game winner as he took a pass from Brandon Carlo and hammered a slap shot from the left point to extend to a 4-2 advantage that they would carry to the locker room after 40 minutes. Pacioretty scored on the powerplay at 14:42 of the third to cut it to that one goal deficit but the Golden Knights (2-1-0) ran out of time dropping their first game of the season as Boston held on for the win.

Marchand added an assist for a three point night and Pastrnak matched him with three points as well with a goal and two assists. Krug also added two points with a goal and an assist. Rask stopped 30 shots to pick up the win in net. Stone and Pacioretty both had two points with a goal and an assist each in the loss for Vegas. Andre-Fleury had 31 saves in net. The Bruins were 1-3 on the powerplay, while the Golden Knights went 2-3.

Bostons next stop is Denver to face another unbeaten in the 2-0 Colorado Avalanche on Thursday night at 9 p.m.
