BANGOR- The John Bapst Crusaders blocked a field goal attempt in the final seconds to come away with a 7-6 win over Houlton in a high school football game played Friday night at Husson University.
The only touchdowns came from the legs of the quarterbacks. After a scoreless first half, Wilson Higgins went across the goal line on quarterback sneak to give the Crusaders a lead with 4:20 left in the third quarter. They converted the point after to take a 7-0 advantage.
The scored stayed the same until Will Belyea ran 71 yards for a Shires touchdown with 9:35 left in the fourth quarter. The extra point wasn’t converted and John Bapst held a one point advantage.
Houlton was hoping to take a lead with 16 seconds remaining but the Crusaders blocked the 37 yard field goal attempt to improve their record to 5-2. John Bapst will finish the regular season against Nokomis at Lawrence on October 25th.
Houlton (3-4) will finish their regular season at Stearns on October 25th.
