Foxcroft gets by Mount View to set up semifinal matchup with Dirigo

DOVER-FOXCROFT– The Foxcroft Ponies have been the class of class C field hockey during the regular season. Things didn’t change on Tuesday afternoon as the Ponies rolled to a 4-0 win over Mount View in a class C North contest.

The game remained scoreless for the first 20:59 thanks to outstanding play from Mustangs goalie Thurston Illingsworth. The Ponies first goal came when Ava Rayfield took a pass from Sheryl Chase and put it past Illingsworth with 9:01 remaining in the first half. Cassidy Marsh made it 2-0 Foxcroft just 4:59 after the Rayfield goal. The Ponies maintained the two goal lead going into halftime.

The Ponies put the game away with two goals from Maranda Poulin in a one minute 32 second span that started with 21:51 remaining in the second half.

The Ponies have outscored their opponents 59-2 this season. Top seeded Foxcroft (15-0) will play Dirigo in a semifinal game.

Illingsworth made 18 saves in goal for the Mustangs. Mt. View finishes the season with a 6-9 record.
