Mount View girls soccer beats Central in quarterfinals

October 29, 2019

EAST CORINTH, Me- Sage Pound scored two goals and Gabby Ravin added a goal and an assist Tuesday afternoon as the Mount View Mustangs rolled to a 5-1 Maine Principals’ Association Class C Northern Maine girls soccer quarterfinal win over the Central Red Devils at Central High school.

This wasn’t a typical #2 vs #7 matchup, as the Mustangs played a very competitive mostly Class B schedule in the regular season. The guests controlled most of the action all afternoon. Pound got them on the board taking a pass from Ravin who busted in down the right wing and got it to Pound who deposited it into the net to the right of Central goalie Alyssa Day 17:27 into the first half. 2:27 later it was Pound again scooping up a rebound of a shot by Arianna Allen that Day couldn’t control and Mt. View led 2-0 at halftime.

It was more of the same in the second half. 11:19 into the half Hannah Coolen fought her way into the box and beat Day with a shot unassisted to make it 3-0. Gabby Allen made it 4-0 less than two minutes later. Ravin, who assisted on the opening goal by Pound, also scored unassisted on a shot to the upper right hand corner of the net with 16:57 left to end the Mustangs scoring. Central got their lone goal when freshman Rylee Speed converted on her second penalty kick of the game with just 54 seconds remaining. Mt. View outshot Central 24-11 in the game.

The 9-6-1 and #7 Mustangs advance to the semifinals on Friday to face either Calais or Houlton. The #2 Red Devils end their season at 11-4.
