PVHS rolls to quarterfinal win over Madawaska

October 29, 2019

In Hampden, the top seeded PVHS Howlers hosted the 9th seed Madawaska Owls. This match make four years in a row the two schools have faced off in the post season.

This year, PVHS would prove to be too much to handle as the Howlers rolled to a 6-0 victory, moving on to the Northern Maine semifinals. PVHS had multiple scoring chances early, had to wait until 19 minutes into the first half to find the back of the net. Emma Buck made a great run on a Delaney Theriault pass for the goal.

Five minutes later Leine McKechnie received a Natalie Spencer pass and sent a blast from 25 yards out into the upper 90. Lexi Ireland would start her scoring off with five minutes left in the first half, capitalizing on an Emily St. Cyr pass. PVHS outshot Madawaska 16-2 over the first 40 minutes, and held a commanding 3-0 lead. Nine minutes into the 2nd half, Emily St. Cyr added a goal of her own on another Theriault assist. St. Cyr would set up Lexi Ireland less then a minutes later for Ireland’s 2nd goal.

Ireland would add another goal later in the half, to finish out the hat trick and giving her 123 career goals. Howler keeper Emilee Ireland earned her 11th shutout of the season, recording six saves on 10 shots as they improve to 14-1. Madawaska goalie Katelyn Ouellette stopped 10 of 25 shots for the Owls. Penobscot Valley will face 5th seed Southern Aroostook Saturday, 12pm at Hampden Academy.
