The Boston Bruins continued their scorching start to the 2019-20 season on Tuesday night as five different players scored goals as they took down the San Jose Sharks 5-1 at TD Garden in Boston.
Patrice Bergeron helped set up the first goal on the powerplay at 7:49 of the first. After the puck went behind the net Bergeron got it on his stick at the right faceoff circle and wired a pass across to David Pastrnak in the left faceoff circle who one timed it past San Jose goalie Martin Jones to make it 1-0. Just over 10 minutes later on the powerplay again Torey Krug found David Krejci in the left faceoff circle for another one timer that eluded the Sharks goalie. It was Krejcis first goal of the season.
Brent Burns put San Jose (4-8-1) on the board as they worked their powerplay 1:31 into the second to cut the deficit in half. Burns walked just inside the blue line and let go a quick wrister through traffic that beat Tuuka Rask. Boston (9-1-2) put the game away scoring three goals in the middle period all even strength. Charlie Coyle converted a feed from David Krejci right in front of Jones at 5:21. Chris Wagner made it 4-1 when he scored on a breakaway off a feed from David Backes at 8:31, and then the scoring on the night was finished off at 16:50 when Brendon Carlo took a feed from Wagner at the point and let go a shot that beat Jones top shelf.
Tuuka Rask made 16 saves in the Bruins win, as the hosts outshot the Sharks 41-17. Jones made 36 saves in the loss for San Jose who dropped their third straight game. Boston converted 2-8 on the powerplay, while the visitors went 1-3. Wagner and Krejci both had a goal and an assist as the Bruins extended their points streak to eight straight games. Boston will host Ottawa on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
