Hampden,ME- The #3 seeded Mount View High School Mustangs(15-2) defeated the #4 Seeded George Stevens Academy Eagles(11-3-2) 3-1 on a rainy Tuesday night at Hampden Academy. The Mustangs were led by Senior Elijah Allen and Junior Ricky Nelson.
First Half- The Mustangs scored first with 33:35 to go when Senior Brennan Grant snuck a shot by Eagles keeper Parker Allen. The Eagles tied it up with 21:50 to go in the half when David Gadsby fired a shot by Nelson. The Mustangs would take the lead for good with 14:49 to go when Elijah Allen redirected a corner kick into the back of the net.
Second Half- The Eagles would produce a lot of chances as each goal keeper struggled to handle the ball on the wet turf but Nelson would swallow up second chance opportunities the Eagles would get. Allen scored his second goal of the night with 29:23 to go in the second half as the Eagles defense struggled to clear the ball. Nelson would hold strong fending off more Eagles shots to seal the Victory. GSA finishes the season 11-3-2 as Class C North Runner up.
The win gives the Mustangs a birth into a State title game for the first time in 39 years and in their first year in class c. They will face the defending state champion Waynflete Flyers Saturday at Falmouth High School.
