The Dexter Tigers wrestling team has many returning starters back from a squad that finished second in PVC’s, Regionals, and States. Coach Andrew Levansalor plans on the team placing at PVCs all the way up through Dual Team Championships, a newly added tournament this year.
“The 2019-2020 Wrestling season has begun. With the loss of six seniors last year, there are high expectations for the many returning starters,”Levansalor said. “I expect the team works hard every day, I’m a big believer in the fact that hard work pays off!”
The team will be lead by a tough group of seniors. Eric Bennet will be chasing his 100th win as well as his first State championship. Justin Wing, a State champion, and Gage Stone, a State and Allstate champion, will be chasing their second state championship as well as their 150th wins.
The Tigers are also expecting big things from the few juniors on the roster led by Nathan Mower who was just one match away from making the state tournament last year.
The sophomore class is led by Nathan Schobel, who competed at a high level at the state championships last year, and won over 40 matches as a freshmen. Also a part of the sophomore class who had a varsity spot last year is Aliviah Anderson, who won the 106 girl state championship last year.
“The team is solid all around, and has the most numbers that Dexter has had in awhile. The depth in the roster will make a huge difference against other teams in dual meets,” Levansalor said. “The team is solid all around, This team has the depth and leaders it needs to compete at a high level. It is well within reach for the team to go far this year.”
Outlook: The Tigers will be in the mix in a competitive class C. Dexter will have some of the best individual wrestlers that will have the opportunity for state titles.
