2019/20 Penobscot Valley high school Boys Basketball preview
Coach Jeremy Durost (8th season)
18/19 record 17-3, lost in the quarter finals to eventual Northern Maine Champion Houlton.
Strengths – Front court size and back court quickness could create some matchup problems for teams. This is a hard working crew that wants to expand on the success that the team has built over the past few years.
Challenges – Inexperience. The team lost 4 Senior starters from last year, including two that were named to the McDonald’s team. There could be some road bumps early on, as players settle into roles and the team discovers its identity.
Top returning players include 4 year starter Reece Carter, and last year’s sixth man Alex Tash. Zach Mitchell logged valuable minutes which will help him take on a greater role this year. Zach Doore, Shane Borrello, Lance Neal, William Brown, and Bryce Seeley are all competing for minutes.
New comers include Cameron Boobar, Ryan Thompson, Gabe Castonguay, and Gabe Reed.
Coaches comment – Durost said, “Class C looks very balanced and competitive in 2019/20. PVHS will have to rely on hard work, tough defense, and offensive execution if they want to make it back to the Cross Center for the third straight year. Each game will be a challenge this season.”
