Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill announced Tuesday morning that Head Coach and former Maine Black Bear Jim Montgomery has been dismissed of his duties effective immediately.
Montgomery, who had been the Head Coach since May 2018, had two years remaining on his contract and had the Stars at 17-11-3 so far this season. He will be replaced by assistant coach Rick Bowness on an interim basis.
Nill stated, “The Dallas Stars expect all of our employees to act with integrity and exhibit professional behavior while working for and representing our organization”. He went on to say that the reason for the firing is unprofessional conduct but has nothing to do with any current or former players. “This decision was made due to unprofessional conduct inconsistent with the core values and beliefs of the Dallas Stars and the National Hockey League”- stated Nill.
Montgomery, who came to Dallas after spending five year as the coach of the Denver Pioneers leading them to four NCAA Tournament appearances and a national title in 2017, also played at Maine helping the Black Bears win their first national title as a senior in 1993.
