Balance attack helps PVHS in boys basketball win over Searsport

In Howland Saturday night, the Howlers hot outside shooting and balanced scoring helped propel them past the visiting Vikings from Searsport 63-37.

PVHS raced out to a 15-6 lead in the first frame, as Reece Carter connected on a pair of 3 pointers and Zach Mitchell provided four points in the paint. The lead extended to 16 at the half, as Mitchell notched six more points in the second quarter and Alex Tash drained two 3’s. Colby Snow tried to keep his Searsport team in striking distance, getting to the line and scoring five points in the quarter.

Carter shouldered the scoring load in the 3rd, scoring seven more points. The fourth frame showed balanced scoring for the Howlers, with six different players making shots. Searsport had their best eight-minute stretch, putting in 16 points led my Gage Ellis’ six and Josh Wright’s five.

Senior Carter finished with a game-high 16 points for the Howlers, who improve to 3-1. Mitchell’s 13 points were a season high, and Zach Doore scored 11 points inclduding three 3-pointers. Tash (9), Lance Neal (4), Shane Borrello (3), Cameron Boobar (3), Bryce Seeley (2), and Ryan Thompson (2) rounded out the scoring for Penobscot Valley, who travel to Penquis on Tuesday.

Searsport (1-2) was led by Freshman Gage Ellis, who connected on four 3-pointers en route to a team-high 13 points. Senior Colby Snow scored 11 and Josh Wright netted 10. Cody Reynolds (2) and Gabe Kneeland (1) were the other scorers for the Vikings, who travel to Deer-Isle on Monday.
