Postgame interviews – Scotty Ferrie, Bryce Burns, Riley Donovan
BANGOR– The Central Red Devils rallied from a 10 point halftime deficit to defeat PCHS 54-50 on Saturday afternoon at the Maine Hall of Fame Classic at the Cross Insurance Center.
The Pirates held an 18-17 lead after the first quarter behind 10 points from Kobe Gilbert. Central took a lead 19-18 early in the second quarter. That would be the last lead of the half for the Red Devils. Gilbert, Christian Easler, and Carter Starbird combined for 14 points in the second quarter.
PCHS built the lead to 40-28 early in the second half, before Central went on a 9-0 run sparked by Bryce Burns to cut the deficit to 40-37. The Red Devils took a 43-42 lead when Burns nailed a shot to beat the buzzer that ended the third quarter. Burns scored 10 points in the quarter.
PCHS held a lead 44-43 early in the fourth quarter. It would be their last lead of the contest. The Pirates evened the score at 50 on a Wayne Haley basket with 3:10 remaining. Scotty Ferrie would hit the game winning shot for the Red Devils with 1:10 left. Burns would secure their victory with two free throws.
Gilbert led the Pirates with 19 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Haley put in 12 points. Starbird added eight points, six rebounds, and two assists. Easler chipped in with four points. Matt Robinson made a three pointer. Colby Chadwick had two points and eight rebounds, while Caleb Bailey also had two points. PCHS (2-5) will next play on January 6th at Bangor Christian.
Ferrie led the Red Devils with 21 points, 16 rebounds, two assists, and two blocks. Burns contributed 19 points, nine rebounds, and two assists. Alex Hewitt added six points, while Simon Allen, Zachary William, and Malachi Miller had four, three, and one respectively. Central (5-2) will next play on January 3rd at Bucksport.
