BANGOR, Maine- Makale Foreman scored a game high 22 points including six three-pointers Sunday afternoon, as the Stony Brook Seawolves used a 19-0 second half run to roll past the Maine Black Bears 73-52 in the America East men’s conference opener for both teams at the Cross Insurance Center.
Maine (4-11, 0-1 AE) never led in this one as the visiting Seawolves led by as many as 14 in the first half, taking their first lead at 5-2 on a Miles Latimer three-pointer three minutes in. The Black Bears cut it to seven when Peter Stumer hit one from behind the arc off a fastbreak with 2:20 to go, but Stony Brook led 35-24 at the break.
A three-pointer early in the second half by Andrew Fleming got Maine to within six, as close as they had been since the 12:50 mark of the first half. Stony Brook (10-6, 1-0) then went on the run that would put things away. The Seawolves scored 19 points in a row that included four three-pointers from Foreman over a span of 4:26 to make it 56-31. 14 points is as close as Maine would get the rest of the way.
Nedeljko Prijovic led Maine with 17 points and four rebounds. Miks Antoms added eight points and seven rebounds, while Fleming had seven points and five rebounds. Latimer finished with 14 points in the win for Stony Brook. Elijah Olaniyi had 11 points, while Jeff Otchere also added 11 points and nine rebounds. The Black Bears travel to Durham to play the UNH Wildcats on Wednesday night.
