Train, Kay help #2 Polar Bears crush Husson Eagles women

Moira Train led all scorers with 24 points on Tuesday night, as the #2 Bowdoin College Polar Bears rolled to a 91-50 win over the Husson Eagles in non-conference women’s basketball at Morrell Gymnasium in Brunswick.

Bowdoin (12-0) left no doubt in this game by scoring the first eight points of the contest and never trailed, building to a 25-9 lead after the opening 10 minutes. The Polar Bears increased that to a 34 point halftime lead at 50-16 by outscoring Husson (4-7) 25-7 in the second quarter. The Eagles never got closer than 31 in the second half, and Bowdoin led by as many as 45 in rolling to the win.

The Polar Bears who were the national runners up in Division III women’s basketball last season also got 17 points from Sela Kay. Megan Tan also contributed 11 points, four rebounds, and five assists. Husson got 13 point and nine rebounds from freshman center Bailey Donovan. Vanessa Duarte also added 10 points. The Eagles were outscored 38-18 in the paint, and also committed 29 turnovers that led to 29 Bowdoin points on the night. Husson will host UMaine Presque-Isle in a pair of NAC games this weekend at Newman Gymnasium. Fridays tipoff is 5:30 p.m., while Saturdays game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
