Bangor, ME- The Husson University Eagles defeated the University of Maine Presque Isle Owls 91-60 on Saturday in North Atlantic Conference women’s basketball at Newman Gymnasium behind a 31 point first quarter and putting three players in double digit scoring.
The Eagles started the game with the hot hand in Sydney Allen as she shot 4-4 from behind the three point line to contribute 12 points in the first quarter. The strong showing on offense turned into defense and the Owls were held to seven points in the opening quarter.
The Owls would find the basket in the second quarter to close the gap behind strong efforts by Sarah Musselman and Marissa Reagle, trailing the Eagles 45-25 at halftime.
Husson kept the pressure on in the second half with their size advantage in Bailey Donovan and Sami Ireland who produced many second chances on rebounds and each reached double digits in scoring.
Bailey Donovan lead the way for the Eagles with 20 points and 11 rebounds while Sydney Allen shot 6-7 from behind the three point line to finish with 18 points. Sami Ireland finished with 13 points and nine rebounds. Husson is now 6-7, 4-0 NAC
The Owls were led by Reagle with 14 points and Musselman with 13 points as UMPI falls to 2-10, 0-4.
UP NEXT: Husson will host Suny-Delhi on Wednesday January 15th at 3PM while UMPI will travel to take on #2 nationally ranked Bowdoin on Tuesday January 14th.
