GUILFORD– The Mattanawcook Lynx had to do something they haven’t done this season to pull out a win on Monday afternoon.
The Lynx rallied from a 13 point first half deficit to defeat the PCHS Pirates 70-69 in double overtime. It is the first time this season that Mattanawcook has scored more than 59 points.
PCHS jumped out to a 21-12 lead after the first quarter as Kobe Gilbert (10) and Preston Ricker (8) combined for 18 points in the quarter.
PCHS started a run in the first quarter and extended it into the second quarter to take a 25-12 advantage. The Lynx cut the deficit to 36-31 at intermission when Jackson Weatherbee made a three pointer to beat the second quarter buzzer.

Gilbert made a three pointer to start the third quarter to give PCHS a 39-31 lead. Mattanawcook went on a 7-1 run capped by a three pointer from freshman Jordyn Colorado. PCHS responded with an 8-0 run to end the third quarter capped by a Gilbert steal and layup as the Pirates took a 48-38 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Mattanawcook took their first lead of the game on a Brandon Oliver basket with 2:54 remaining. The Lynx finished off a 14-0 run on a free throw by Thomas Ireland. Gilbert helped the Pirates rally at the end of regulation to even the score at 56. Gilbert scored six points late in the fourth quarter and had a game high 44 points.
Each team scored four points in the first overtime as the game went to double overtime. Oliver scored nine of his team high 22 points in overtime, including going 3-4 from the free throw line down the stretch to secure the victory. Colorado also hit two big free throws in the second overtime.
Gilbert recorded 6 three pointers, five rebounds, four steals, and three assists to go along with his game high in points. Ricker had 12 points, seven rebounds, and two steals. Colby Chadwick had four points and seven rebounds, Matt Robinson made a three pointer. Caleb Bailey, Wayne Haley, and Carter Starbird had two points each. Starbird had seven rebounds, while Haley had five rebounds and five assists. PCHS (6-8) will host Valley on Wednesday night.
Oliver led the Lynx with 22 points, 11 rebounds, three steals, two assists, and two blocks. Griffin Coburn added 13 points and four rebounds. Weatherbee recorded seven points, four rebounds, and four assists. Malcolm Slomienski added six points. Cody Hanscom and Colorado had five points each. Ireland and Maddox Capps chipped in with three and two points respectively. Capps also had seven rebounds. Mattanawcook (6-7) will play at Calais on Saturday.
Mattanawcook out rebounded the Pirates 37-35. The Lynx shot 14-20 from the free throw line, while PCHS shot 6-12. The Pirates committed 22 turnovers, while Mattanawcook had 11.
