NAC: Husson women sweep, men swept at SUNY-Canton

The Husson men’s and women’s basketball teams traveled to SUNY-Canton for a pair of North Atlantic Conference games on Friday night and Saturday afternoon.

In the women’s game Friday, Syndey Allen set a program record for three-pointers made with eight and she hit 8-11 from the arc and scored 26 points to lead Husson to a 74-45 win over SUNY-Canton.

The Eagles put the game out of reach early by outscoring the Roos 27-7 in the first quarter and led 41-13 at halftime. Allen added six rebounds, five assists, and two steals to her game high point total. Bailey Donovan had 14 points and eight rebounds, while Vanessa Duarte also chipped in 13 points. Autumn Dawkins had 18 points, five rebounds, and three steals in the loss for SUNY-Canton.

In the second women’s game Saturday afternoon, Allen led the way again with 18 points and five rebounds as Husson pulled away for a 62-38 win.

The Eagles outscored the Roos by 10 in both the second and third quarter to stay unbeaten in NAC play (10-7, 7-0). Donovan added 13 points and nine rebounds. Watkins scored 16 to lead SUNY-Canton, who fall to 1-18, 1-7.

 

In the men’s game Friday night, Quran Debois led five players in double figures with 22 points as SUNY-Canton pulled away from Husson for a 79-63 win.

The Roos outscored the Eagles 42-29 in the second half to pull away in a tight three point game at halftime. The four other starters also scored in double digits as George Nehma had 15 points, Danny Santana 14, Joseph Warner 13, and Juztin Chambers-Phillips had 10 points. J Thomas had 18 points and six rebounds for Husson.

 

In the men’s game Saturday afternoon, SUNY-Canton built a 12 point halftime lead and then held off a Husson rally before pulling away for the weekend sweep with an 82-63 win.

Dubois again was the leading scorer in the game with 21 points as the Roos led 39-27 at the break. Derek Collin cut the deficit to 47-42 with 14:05 left, but SUNY-Canton would then go on a 24-11 run to push the lead back to 18 and the Eagles couldn’t recover. Santana had 19 points and Nehma had 13 to help improve the Roos to 11-8, 7-1 NAC. Scott Lewis had 15 points and seven rebounds off the bench to lead Husson in the loss. Justice Kendall had 13 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Collin finished with 10 points, as the Eagles dropped their third straight NAC game and sees their record go to 6-11, 4-3.

The men’s and women’s teams both return home to Newman Gymnasium to play UMaine-Farmington next Friday night. The women’s game tips at 5:30 p.m., with the men to follow at 7:30.
