Dexter boys basketball improves to 15-0 with win over Schenck

DEXTER– Nate Richards is a senior leader on the Dexter boys basketball team. On Tuesday night, the senior leader came through when his team needed him the most.

Richards made the go ahead shot with 1:05 remaining in the fourth quarter and added a free throw with 13 seconds left to help the Tigers secure a 34-31 win over Schenck at Ed Guiski Gymnasium.

Dexter trailed 7-3 late in the first quarter, from that point they went on an 8-0 run to take a lead they wouldn’t give back. Robbie Dorman sparked the run with two straight baskets early in the second quarter. The Tigers held a 15-11 intermission lead.

The biggest lead of the game was eight as the Tigers held that advantage three different times in the third quarter. Schenck cut the deficit to 25-21 entering the final quarter.

The fourth quarter was Buggy (as Nate Richards is called at Dexter) time. Richards started the quarter with a block and added another one a few minutes later. Brett Kusnierz also came through, scoring his only four points in the final eight minutes.

Tyrone Davis led the Wolverines with nine points, six rebounds, and three steals. Kaden Hannan added eight points and six rebounds. Maxamus Burleigh had six points and four rebounds. Colby Hannan chipped in with four points, while Andrew Goulas and Jesse Stanley each had two points. Schenck (11-3) will host PCHS on Thursday.

Dorman led the Tigers with 12 points and four rebounds. Freshman Will Kusnierz filled up the stat sheet with nine points, four assists, four rebounds, and two steals. Richards had five points, six rebounds, and two blocks. Brett Kusnierz had four points and four rebounds. Parker Ponte and Haedyn Guenther added two points each. Dexter (15-0) will host PVHS on Saturday.

Dexter shot 6-13 from the free throw line, while Schenck shot 6-12.
