Grant makes three late free throws to give Dexter win over Greenville

DEXTER– Peyton Grant made three foul shots with 11.4 seconds left to lift Dexter to a 21-19 win over Greenville on Wednesday night.

The teams went back and forth in the first eight minutes of play with four lead changes and Dexter holding a 9-6 lead after the first quarter. Grant had eight points (2 three pointers) in the quarter.

The ball stopped going in the hoop for both teams in the second quarter. They combined for three points (all free throws) in the quarter as the Tigers held a 10-8 intermission lead.

Greenville evened up the score at 10 early in the second half. Dexter took the lead back on a deep three pointer from Grant. The Lakers went on a 6-0 run that extended into the fourth quarter. Cheyenne Beem evened the score at 16 when she nailed a three pointer with 4:23 remaining in the final quarter.

Greenville took a 17-16 advantage when Morgan Noyes made 1-2 from the free throw line. Dexter took an 18-17 lead on two free throws from Elizabeth Kinney with 2:40 left in the fourth quarter. Tiegan Murray gave the Lakers a 19-18 lead. Grant made her three free throws after getting fouled on a three point attempt. Greenville had an opportunity in the final seconds but the hall was turned over and Dexter came away with their seventh straight win.

Halle Pelletier led the Lakers with eight points, 11 rebounds, and two steals. Murray had six points and eight rebounds. Jessica Pomerleau added four points, while Noyes made one free throw. Greenville (14-2) will host 16-1 Deer Isle-Stonington on Saturday.

Grant led the Tigers with 14 points and three steals. Kinney recorded three points, eight rebounds, and two assists. Beem added three points, five rebounds, and two steals. Dexter (11-4) will host PCHS on Friday night.

Dexter shot 7-9 from the free throw line, while Greenville shot 3-9. The Lakers out rebounded Dexter 32-19. Greenville had 17 turnovers, while the Tigers had 10.
